Essential Questions

1. Why is it important to identify safety issues and to safely operate equipment utilized in the classroom? So you know what dangers there are in the classroom.
2. How do interpersonal and employability skills effect both your everyday life and your future? They determine what type of job is available to you.
3. What is graphic design and why is it important to communicate visually? Graphic design is a creative process and it is important to communicate visually so all audiences can understand the idea or thought being perceived.
4. What are the elements of design and how are they incorporated into a design? The elements of design are lines, shape, color, value, and texture. They can be used for anything. For example, texture can be viewed mentally and physically and shapes can add emphasis to a design.
5. What is a vector-based design and how is it created? Line, curves, etc. used to create points in Illustrator.
6. How is color used effectively in a graphic design? The printing, outcome, and attention from color can effect a design. 
7. What is a raster-based image and how is it created? Images constructed of pixels.
8. How does the manipulation of size and resolution effect digital images? By changing the size and resolution can effect the way a person views the picture. 
9. What are the principles of design and how can they be used within a design? They are concepts used to add detail and add structural elements to a design. There are the main eight which are: unity, emphasis, direction, contrast, proportion, economy, rhythm, and balance. 
10. What is the function of type within a design? Type can help set the mood and feeling of information or layout of the design.
11. How do designers use a page layout program? The program helps organize and create a unique layout that can be printed.
12. What steps does a designer take to design a page layout from concept to final product? Designers like to do some background research and then brainstorm or create thumbnails, little doodles and sketches of their ideas; next they create the layout in an affective way that the target audience will understand, and then critique.
13. What are the key developments in the history of visual communication? How do these developments shape our industry? All the inventions that make up the tools used today is one of the key developments; without all the inventions, graphics, photography, typography, and more would not be here.
14. What careers are available within the field of graphic design? What professional organizations are associated with the industry? There are a lot a professions in the graphic design industry like production artists, a graphic designer, free lancers, and more. Some graphic design organizations include AIGA, SPD, NAPP, NPPA, PIGA, and more.

15. What is a logotype and how is it created?  A piece of type or a symbol that that represents and identifies a symbol or term; it as created for adverting and used for visuals for businesses.
