"Semester Reflection"

This semester was jam packed! It was my first time learning anything that has to do with the art of graphic design. When I signed up for the class, I thought it would be easy but fun since I get to work with computers. Graphics is fun, but not as easy. The first time we stared to use Illustrator, I was so confused and frustrated, because I was not familiar with all the tools. At around assignment three was when I got used to Illustrator, then I think we started to use Photoshop. In my opinion I think Photoshop is more fun than Illustrator because you have a lot more to work with. The first few assignments were hard because I was new to the world of graphic and design, and I am still learning.  Next semester I hope to work with more color. The past few assignments have been black and white and it kind of gets a little boring. Also, I hope to work with partners because you can learn a lot by collaborating with others that have different ideas than you.

"Review Week 17"

After reading this article, I have learned more about serifs than I already knew before. The article did contain some topics that I knew already like the definition of a serif, which are strokes of some sort that go at the end of a characters/letter. I also learned some more history about where serifs first developed. There are so many opinions and theories on where serifs were created. The main thing I learned from this passage is the difference between adnate and abrupt serifs. Adnate serifs are more "organic" and there stems are a bit curly. Abrupt serifs are boxier and rigid. Overall I thought the article has many details about serifs that can educates me in the future for any other projects/assignments.

8 Principles of Design

Scale/Proporttion is the overall size in a design. Here in the photo are four former president of the US that are scaled to be over 70 feet tall.

Balance is the principle that helps the viewer interpret the design. This design is symmetrical meaning that everything is equal' it conveys calm, peace, and tranquility.

Contrast creates smoothness or roughness within a design. This element adds texture. Here in the design mostly contains smooth lines.

Direction leads the viewer's eye throughout a design. It is not only created my line but the color being utilized also adds the element of direction.

Emphasis is the principle that guides the viewer all over the design. You can emphasize one point of many. In this painting you can tell the the artist wanted to emphasis the trees and path to wherever it may lead.

Unity is the combing of all principles (or most of them) into one. Here you have the colorful, bold words than move in a direction; there are also smooth and rough lines. Together all the elements for one whole working unit.

Rhythm is basically a pattern and repeating of objects in a design. This element can make it appear boring or add depth.

Economy is when you can remove an element from design and still make it work and flow in a design. In the picture, you have many hands and forearms that are seen, but his/her body cannot be seen. You can remove the balance of the design and stll make it work.
