In the sixth century BC, what three civilizations invaded Egypt? Persians, Greeks, and Romans

What was discovered on the inside of the temples? Tombs, carved paintings and hieroglyphics

Logograms are visual symbols representing ideas or objects and were stylized, simplified, and recognizable; alphabetic elements came to use when writing became demotic.

Hiero- sacred, glyphic- engraving and writing

What is a scribe?
A school for students to learn how to read and write.

Who else was trained to read and write?
Why? Military leaders so they communicate while in battle

What is papyrus and how was it made? Substrate made from reeds in Egypt; wet reeds were placed over each other then they were flattened and then dried, then they are rubbed with stones until the surface becomes smooth.

How did Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics become a forgotten language?
Non-Christian temples were closed down by Theodosius and then the language was lost, so no one knew how to decipher them

What is the Rosetta Stone? Where was it discovered?  It was discovered in Egypt; it is basically a stone inscribed with old hieroglyphics.

What three languages are included on the stone?
Egyptian hieroglyphics, demotic, and Greek

Why couldn't the text on the Stone be deciphered?
A chunk of the stone was missing and non of the three languages were complete.

Who finally deciphered the text? What was his breakthrough?
Jean Francois Champollion; he matched the hieroglyphic symbols with the Greek  version of the name Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses.

Why does the interpretation of the Rosetta Stone have such significance?
We know a lot about Ancient Egypt and the hieroglyphics.
