Five Principles of an Effective Logo Design
Simplicity: makes design to be seen as easily as possible; good logos feature something unexpected and unique to make it not "overdown"
Memorable: achieve this by keeping it simple yet appropriate
Timeless: an effective logo should be timeless; ask yourself will it stand the test of time?, will it be affective in 10, 20, 50 years?
Versatile: works across a variety of media and applications; should be designed in vector format to ensure that they scale and size
Appropriate: target you logo to a certain audience; how you position the logo should be appropriate for its intended audience
Ask questions like...
In one color?
In reverse color (light logo on dark color)?
The size?
As large as a billboard?
Four Color Process vs. Spot Color
Four Color Process:
-technique for printing with full color
-four colors are cyan, magenta, yellow, and black
Spot color:
-method of specifying and printing color in which each color is printed with it one ink
-effective when the printed matter contains only one to three different colors
Pantone Matching System: Pantone is a company that created a printer that uses a color that can be used everywhere Color plays an important role in logo design; it can illicit different feelings and emotions from the audience; it tends to color trends just like fashion; keep your color palette to two to three color; too many colors will increase the cost of production and a chaotic design
Combination marks: are graphics with both text and a symbolism/icon that signifies the brand image that you wish to project for your project or company
Logotype/wordmark: "a word mark" incorporate your company name
